There are a few things that I had to upgrade in this kit. The flashlight, solder, and screwdriver (needed a magnetized one), I also added zip ties. Other than that the kit is awesome, and has a lot of the tools a computer tech would need.

I'm a computer technician and I've had this toolkit for 1 month, while some of the tools are more electronics specific, the best part is the case itself.I bought this tool kit after searching the web for about a week looking for one that had all of the items I needed to take apart my mother's laptop and replace the power supply plug.for quick and easy computer repairs, these tools will do. for daily use, they don't stand up.

Again Accountability is my issue with this product. I read CR report on how nice the lower priced versions of this vendors product was. I bought this to do my folks deck and to reuse to remodel our house. Thinking this had all the lower product feature rolled into a Premium product which is what their Web site impies,But found is way too Complext, and does not include such objects. Who ever designed it must be an older OOPs developer. IE Other than simple building objects (walls roofs, ets) for creative components/objects you must make or buy each as add ons.(free with their low end products.) Better to buy their specific product for something, i.e. Desk design, Garden design, or a real product mentioned in the others reviews. This was a real waste of my money... Happy Computing JR

I have used Punch for over 10 years. I decided to upgrade to 5000 from 4000 in order to get the "improved" workshop, the reflections and the Birds Eye view (doll house view.)

The program is almost indistinguisable from 4000 and the extra features do not justify even the $150 upgrade price I paid, let alone the stand alone price tag. I immediately had problems with the program opening my files from 4000 and called for technical support. They were not able to help me and kept blaming my computer (a nearly brand new HP Pavilion with a Centrino Duo and GeForce Go 7600 video card--not a shabby setup!) They said they only test the software out on 5 computers. Hello? Do you think that might be an issue, guys?

They refuse to refund the price under ANY circumstances. Please be very, very cautious about purchasing this program. They claim they won't refund money for any of their programs including and beyond the AS 3000 version. It took me three years to become agile with Punch. I know about 12 people who have purchased it, and literally thrown it away out of frustration (a couple threatened to throw their computers across the room as well...).

If you really need a complete Architectural program I suggest biting the bullet and purchasing the much more expensive Chief Architect. They have excellent tutorials, teaching DVD's, life long phone help and, most importantly, a 90 MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. The time saved in getting up and going will be well worth it for anyone who is designing a home or major landscaping project.

This item is good but I think the kit should have an antistatic strap. This would incease safety for the user and the equipment.

The main difference between AS 5000 and its predecessor AS 4000 is the incorporation of 3D Custom Workshop Pro, which is a restricted/modified version of Punch's basic ViaCAD 2D/3D application.Overall, this is a positive change as Custom Workshop Pro allows importing designs from other software into Punch's 3D Object Library, including those that are widely available as Google Sketchup files. However, the implementation of Custom Workshop Pro is flawed. The program is unstable and crashes even with some of Punch's own objects and does not render imported object textures properly.

Otherwise, AS 5000 offers little additional features and remains problematic and seriously flawed, especially when designing any even slightly non-traditional constructions. Despite the wide array of poorly documented features and peculiar behaviors, you will be forced into making design compromises, even if you critically comb through all available instruction materials such as printed manuals, the program's electronic help and tutorial videos, and internet resources including the heavily advertised Punch University online video courses.I cannot recommend this software to any user.Entry level users are better served using any of the widely available cheap, low-end products to decide if house design/CAD is for them or not.Once you have made the decision to proceed with your own design and creation (and I would bet any money that this would only be the case for a small minority), Punch AS 5000 will quickly show its limitations to you, especially when any non-conventional designs are concerned. If you are planning a conventional design, then why purchase a high-end architectural CAD product in the first place?

Having used the features of Punch AS 5000 extensively for real projects, and now comparing it to the trial version of Chief Architect X1, I came to the conclusion that the higher priced Chief Architect X1 is well worth every penny that you would spend on it (not to mention the available support options), provided you are REALLY SERIOUS AND COMMITTED about using it.I am in no way affiliated with Chief Architect and I really wish their product was more affordable, and did not have a USB locking device, etc. However, even if your time would be worth minimum wage, Chief Architect would be worth its high price economically.Remember that no software will allow you to develop new ideas, or implement them with a few mouse clicks. In my case, I was able implement my plan using Chief Architect literally in a matter of hours, which was a task that had proven itself impossible while using Punch AS 5000 for several weeks.

Designing a house plan is a long and arduous process, requiring far more time, patience, and perseverance than you would expect, as well as innumerable visits to libraries and other sources for reference. As always, the Devil is in the details, and this is precisely where AS 5000 falls short. The user will be forced to compromise for example on floor plan/wall layout in order to create a desired roof. These compromises not only cost you time and force you to troubleshoot after minor adjustments, but they also make the difference between a spectacular versus mediocre-at-best end-result.

Unless you are a qualified professional, you will also need to have your plans reviewed, approved and signed off by a qualified professional. In this context, I have not come across any professionals who either use or recommend using Punch's line of house design products for obvious reasons. They all use products of AutoCAD's and Chief Architect's caliber and reputation. And speaking of low-end products, why use Punch's if they all culminate in AS 5000, when Chief Architect also provides low-end, affordable consumer products that would offer a more convenient transition to Chief Architect?

The bottom line is that Punch has put out the same interface and underlying design year-after-year.The limitations of the program's current implementation undermine the user's creativity and impair the overall work flow. The incorporation of additional features and wizards do not save the flawed overall program design, even if any of the included wizards/components/features would shine individually. Punch should finally start listening to its more knowledgeable consumers and should also try to offer its services to professionals whose feedback could in turn improve its overall product line.I would have considered a higher rating as appropriate if the program was being sold as something for entertainment rather than for such a serious undertaking as designing a house.Support options are inadequate. For example, you cannot expect any support if you happen to use even a high-end laptop PC.The questions on their user forums are of the variety of "how do I register my program" or "how do I return my software" and there is an inadequate number of entries that offer any complicated help or advice.

Awesome overall general use for a variety of different projects from mechanical to electrical (less mechanical, more electrical). The Belkin's lifetime warranty is great to have. Everything does what it's suppose to do. You'll most likely replace the flashlight since it's plastic and doesn't look like it'll handle a drop. Of course, don't be reckless with these fine tools. None of the tools are listed so I'll copy & paste someone else's list. This kit includes an allen wrench set, mini pocket screwdriver, small diagonal cutters, long nose pliers, wire stripper, mini-screwdriver set, 6" extended phillips bit, pen knife, IC chip remover, tweezers, soldering iron with solder and wick, parts retriever and a ratcheting screwdriver with standard, phillips, torx, and square bits and both metric and standard sockets with a socket bit.

This would be an excellent product if it only worked ! I am a software developer and have significant experience with CAD tools.I spent a few weeks working with the Home Designer. The features this product attempt to implement are excellent (topography, foundation, roof, electrical, plumbing, decks,....) but the implementation is terrible.I had particular trouble with the most basic features. I could not define a lot size other than rectangular, the 'Topo Designer' would not build a sloping lot plan, rendering of designs would fall apart, zooming controls are extremely weak, could not build an elevation plan....Once you build your architectural footprint, the remaining functions (electrical, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, and interior control) are more robust. This product reminds me of Microsoft's first version of windows..... a good idea that needs to mature. Punch support for the product is also very poor.I may reconsider the product in a few years....

Purchased this product and reviewed the punch university videos to get a feel for it.Which in all fairness the university program is a great Idea. However the program is not a program I would recommend to anyone. It is flawed in many respects in regard to drawing.First off if you have an exterior wall that turns into an interior wall it is a pain to try and change wall sizes. I was told by a punch representative at their support line that you can't do this. Can you believe it! I guess you can not have any rooms protruding out from the structure. I found a way around it but it is a pain.No reason for this other than poor programing on the part of their programmer. Another quirk is you have to change the elevation on you interior walls as the floor affects only the elevation on interior walls. That is to say your exterior walls are at a different elevation than your interior walls. This is just poor as all elevations should default to the same on a floor unless changed. The support tech also told me that when you draw your first floor it is actually the basement. Which is OK but when you hit the foundation button it automatically creates a foundation. If you try to draw a wall in this foundation it also puts the wall on the first floor. There are only three floors on the menu so if you use the first as a basement you can only design a 2 floor house. There are too many other problems and aggravations to mention. This product is not worth investing in in my opinion. It lacks quality in the programing and although there are ways around some of these problems, why should you have to find them given the cost of the program. I honestly think this could be a good product if they paid the money to hire the right programmers. The ones they have are definitely lacking. The support for this product is terrible and they obviously have unqualified people manning their support lines. However the online forum can be helpful
