As a contingency planner, I was drawn to Mark Goldwich's book "Uncovered: What Really Happens After the Storm, Flood, Earthquake or Fire".I have written many, if not hundreds, business contingency plans and family disaster plans. One thing I have never considered including is a Public Insurance Adjuster in the plans.After reading this book, which is well laid out and easy to read, there will be a Public Insurance Adjuster listed in my plans.



It is the job of the Public Insurance Adjuster to handle the process of filing a claim and following it through to the end.The Public Insurance Adjuster charges based on what they recover for you.



The book is a real eye-opener into the inner-workings of filing a claim with your insurance provider. In the book, Mark discusses the bitter truth that no one realizes until he or she is the midst of filling a claim and totally frustrated with the entire process.Mark brings to the table many years of experience working for the insurance industry and with this experience he discusses in detail the three practices that insurance companies don't what us to know about: extensive delays, denial of coverage, and deflecting responsibility.



Overall, Mark does an excellent job explaining what happens when you file a claim and the obstacles the insurance companies use to delay, deny, and deflect your claim. Also, Mark includes, in Appendix C, the Ten Commandments one should follow when going alone in this process.



If you are a homeowner or property owner, this book is a must read that will empower you to be effective in navigating, negotiating, and maximizing your insurance claim.

Mark has helped me. I read the book and called him. The book is very surprisingly readable. I guess it's because it feels like he's talking about us, the common man. That's how I felt anyway. This book is valuable, chock full of info from real people dealing with insurance companies. Anyway, I felt much more comfortable dealing with my insurance company. I didn't feel powerless. It helped me beyond my expectations. I could go on...FIVE STARS.

The book, Uncovered, by Mark Goldwich is a significant book that every homeowner should read. Mark uses his many years of experience in the insurance industry to point out the unseemly ploys that take place behind the scenes when claims are processed for property damages. The book explains why delays occur, why many valid claims are denied, and how insurance companies deflect their responsibility to other entities, rather than assuming it themselves. Once you understand how the insurance companies operate, and the obstacles they use to improve their bottom line profits at the expense of the insured claim filer, you will realize that you need an insurance expert (a public insurance adjuster) on your side if you are ever faced with a natural disaster to your property and/or the delays, denials and deflections insurance companies use to your detriment. This book is a much needed wake up call for the insurance consumer.

I find it difficult to understand the other reviewers positive take on this book.It is short ( 139 pages printed in large type),and pretty superficial.The main theme is that insurance companies make money by denying claims (imagine that!), that they often engage is slippery adjustment techniques, and that the best advice for the homeowner is to call Mark, a public adjuster (an independent consultant who assist the homeowner for a fee, and in most states must be registered), at the phone number at the back of the book.



Most of the book deals with widespread catastophes (wind-flood) which overwhelm the adjusting process for the insurance companies, make it necessary to use contract adjusting companies, and involve much delay, usually to the benefit of the insurance company. If you have been in a hurricane, and want to be shocked into knowing how the system works in that situation, then this might be the book for you.Remember that the main advice offered is not to sign anything without consulting with Mark or other members of his profession. Probably a good idea, but hardly worth a short overpriced book.



I bought this book (and have since returned it) because I wanted some

down to earth perspective on single event residential fire insurance. There isn't any to speak of.

Mark Goldwich's book "Uncovered- What really happens after the storm, flood, earthquake or fire" is a must read for every Florida homeowner.We all would like to think that our homeowners insurance will protect us in case of a fire or hurricane.This book will open your eyes to how the insurance game is really played, unccover the real truth, and how to really protect yourself and your property.Now if I ever have to file an insurance claim I know what I need to do and who call for help.
