The book has great ideas for helping plan my bsaement. I did not model my basement from just a picture but I drew ideas from several different styles and thoughts of from the author. After having an idea what I wanting I planned it accordingly.



It was an easy to read book, gave great ideas, and help plan my basement. This book is a must have to plan the perfect living space for my family and I.

This book provided no interesting or unique ideas for how to finish my basement.Nor did it provide any useful information about how to initiate or implement a basement finishing/remodeling project.In short, the book provided me no value and did not live up to my expectations given the glowing reviews.



Here is a summary of the entire book: you can use your basement as a family room, a children's playroom, a workout room, a bedroom, a home office, a pub, or some combination of these rooms.It provides numerous pictures of all these options; most of which it appears they took in the 80's or early 90's.



Clearly, everyone else found this to be a wealth of information.I recommend reviewing the book in a library or bookstore before spending your money to determine if the ideas inspire you.

Tons of full color photographs and drawings, and well-written text make this book a must-read for the amateur home-improver.This book isn't an exhaustive guide to remodeling, but it covers most of everything you'd need to know.For some specifics, like plumbing and electrical, it may be necessary to get a more detailed book on those subjects, if you're going to do that work yourself.Still, a great book, I'm already relying on it to do my own basement remodel.

This is very useful if you are finishing your basement yourself.This is not a how-to-manual though. (If you are looking for a how-to I suggest TAunton's Build Like a Pro.) This book is for the planning process. Great photos and ideas on what kinds of rooms you can create with all of that basement space. In addition, each section highlights the major planning considerations for creating that space. From traditional to modern, this book was the best and most current for basement ideas.

We used this book for all types of little details as well as overall concepts. It is really helpful to randomly page through the book about 20 times, because you will find a new little idea or detail each time.

I really like this one. Along with excellent information on framing, plumbing, and electrical; it has some very nice examples of what you can do with your basement. It has the best description of half-walls I have seen (I desperately needed that) and so much information it is amazing! Buy this book if you are an advanced do-it-yourself person and want to remodel of finish your basement.

This book covers, in great depth, basic framing and finishing techniques.In other words, it's full of information that's available in myriad other remodeling texts. That information is well presented, but it's nothing exclusive to this book.What I expected, and where it falls woefully short, is a good discussion of issues particular to basements.Water gets perhaps two pages, humidity/moisture nothing at all, slanting floors and floor drains nothing.He does mention egress windows and basement mechanicals.Overall, however, far too much space given to general building techniques (probably over 80% of the book), when in fact what I think is needed is a lot more depth and detail regarding issues related to basements.
